It’s officially spooky season and there’s no better way to get into the Halloween Spirit than to pull out those paint brushes (and sponge pouncers) for a fun project! Whether you’re hosting a paint party or you just want to relax with some festive creativity, this Halloween Wine Glass Tutorial is beginner friendly and so fun! Ready to dive in? Grab your supplies and let’s get started!

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Wine Glass
  • Multi-Surface Paints (I used Folk Art for these)
    • Juneberry ( medium purple)
    • Eggplant (dark purple)
    • Moon Yellow (bright yellow)
    • White
    • Black
  • Paint Pouncers
  • Liner Brush

How to Create an Ombre Background

We’re going to start by giving our wine glass an ombre background. This is such an easy way to create a spooky background that is perfect for nightfall. Using a sponge pouncer, we’re going to dip it into the white paint and then remove the excess paint by pouncing it onto your palette. Now comes the fun part… dabbing the pouncer onto your wine glass creating a hazy effect! I personally like to leave a small lip at the top of the wine glass unpainted, but feel free to paint the entire glass if you prefer!

Once the white paint has been painted in a section around the glass, we will begin to blend some of those Multi-Surface Paints in to create that beautiful ombre effect. In order to obtain that seamless ombre effect, you shouldn’t wash off your pouncer. Dip it straight into the Juneberry paint and after dabbing the excess paint off on your palette, take the pouncer right below the white paint on your glass to create a light purple ring. The key here is to gradually work your way down the wine glass with the Juneberry until you reach a rich pale-purple tint.

As you get closer to the bottom, use the same process but switch to the Eggplant paint color to make the base of the wine glass darker. For extra depth, you can even add a tiny bit of black paint to the very bottom.

I’m going to be honest when I originally got to this point I loved the wine glass and the ombre look already! How cute would it be for a Halloween party? You may even choose to leave your glass just like this. Of course, I couldn’t stop there, but I had to add a glowing moon!

Painting the Moon on the Background

Adding the moon is simple, we’re going to grab a bit of white paint and dab it onto a larger pouncer. Immediately dip the pouncer into the Moon Yellow paint and gently blend those colors together on the palette so they mix smoothly. Next, find the spot you wish to place the moon on your wine glass and pounce the moon right onto the glass. This creates a glowing moon that is sure to stand out beautifully against the ombre background!

Painting the Creepy Tree

Now it’s time to add the best feature of this wine glass - the creepy tree! Wet your paint brush, and use black paint to create a tree and branches that look fluid and natural. It really is that simple. The best part about this step is that it is super beginner-friendly as there is no need for perfectly steady hands. The more crooked and twisted the branches, the creepier the tree looks.
