Create Your Own Easter Egg Hunt Sign
Mar 28, 2025
Spring has sprung, and you know what that means—time for all things pastel, bunny-themed, and egg-stra festive! If you’re looking for a fun way to bring some Easter cheer to your home, I’ve got just the DIY for you. I’m excited to share this fun and festive wood sign I created using another stencil from Essential Stencil. You guys know how much I love them! If you love using their stencils as much as I do, don’t forget to use my code ARTSYMOON to get an extra 10% off your purchase!
Let’s Hop to It!
First things first, make sure your board is prepped and ready to go. I painted mine with a rustic wood grain look to give it that perfect farmhouse charm. It’s the perfect background for this Spring-themed sign! Using a stencil brush and white paint, gently apply the lettering and arrows. The crisp white against the rustic background contrasts beautifully, creating the perfect base for the color we’ll add later on!
A Patch of Grass—Bunny-Approved!
Now, let’s create some lush, springy grass at the bottom. Mix a bit of black paint with dark green and use your brush to flick up some grass blades. Rinse your brush, then add layers of lighter green to give it depth. Feeling fancy? Toss in some aqua blades and white highlights to really bring your grassy masterpiece to life.
Time to Hide the Eggs!
Once your grass is dry, it’s time for the best part—Easter eggs! Use your stencil and a stencil brush to paint white base layers of eggs. This will make your pastel colors really shine. A little tip: tap your brush instead of dragging to avoid lifting paint.
Position the eggs in different directions along the bottom of the sign so it looks like the Easter Bunny scattered them himself!
Coloring (or Painting) the Eggs
Now for the fun part—coloring in your Easter eggs! Grab your favorite pastel paints—think soft pinks, purples, and baby blues—and give those eggs some personality. Want to take it up a notch? Try painting an egg a solid color first, then go back and add stripes, polka dots, or other fun designs. Finish them off by adding a little shadow underneath each egg using black paint.
To keep those eggs from looking like they’re floating, use a thin brush to add more grass blades in front of the eggs. You can even add a few yellow blades for extra texture. Voilà—your eggs now have a home in the grass!
Brighten it Up with Blooms
What’s a spring scene without some pretty flowers? To tie everything together, use a tiny round brush to create whimsical yellow flowers. Simply add small dots to the taller blades of grass for a fun, lively look. For extra dimension, add tiny white dots to give them a little extra pop.
The Ombre Magic Trick
For the word “Easter,” we’re going to go for an ombre look! Using a stencil brush, apply light yellow paint to the top half of the letters and blend pink onto the bottom half. It’s like a dreamy Easter sunrise in lettering form!
For “Egg Hunt,” mix pink and purple for a soft lavender hue. Finish things off with a teal paint color for the bunny ears and arrow—because, let’s be real, teal makes everything cuter!
Show Off Your Egg-straordinary Work!
Once everything is dry, your Easter Egg Hunt sign is ready to steal the show! Whether you use it as a festive decoration or as a guide for little egg hunters, it’s sure to bring some extra happiness to your Easter celebrations.
