Three Simple Ways to Hang a Door Hanger

Door hangers are such a fun way to get the most out of your home decor! Whether you’re showing off a seasonal design or a unique design you created and love, displaying it is easier than you might think. I can’t wait to share three super simple ways to hang your door hangers!

Drilled or Punched Holes for a Double Sided-Door Hanger

Drilled or punched holes are such an easy and secure way to hang your door hanger without messing up the painted designs on either side. And trust me, it’s simpler than you might think!

Start by making two small holes near the top of your door hanger, making sure they’re evenly spaced with a drill or Crop-a-Dile tool (if you’re using MDF hangers). The Crop-a-Dile tool is so convenient, but I will say that you do need to have some hand strength to punch the holes. Once you’ve got your holes, thread some jute, leather cord, wire, or ribbon through them. Personally, I’m all about wired ribbon because it adds structure and looks adorable. Pull the ribbon through both holes, leaving some slack in the middle, and then tie it in a higher bow so that you can display both sides of the door hanger.

Tips:

  • Give the holes a little sanding for a smooth finish and to keep jute or ribbon from fraying.
  • If your hanger has a resin coating, a Dremel tool works wonders to avoid cracks.

Staples for a Single-Sided Door Hanger

Staples are a fantastic option for a strong, sturdy hold when hanging your door hanger. They work great with leather, thick jute, or ribbon, and the best part? They’re super discreet! Just grab a staple gun and secure your chosen material to the back of the door hanger. Easy peasy! Just be sure to check that your staples are the right length so they don’t poke through to the front—nobody wants that.

Want to add a little flair? Pop a decorative bow or some fun embellishments onto the hanging loop for an extra dose of charm.

Tips:

  • Use a staple gun with adjustable depth to match your door hanger’s thickness.
  • Test the staple length on a scrap piece first to avoid any oops moments!

Hot Glue and Jute (Quick and Easy, Best for Temporary Use)

This hot glue and jute method is perfect for lightweight hangers or when you just need a quick, tool-free solution. However, it’s best for short-term use or indoor environments. All you need to do is cut a length of jute and form a loop for hanging. Use hot glue to attach the ends of the jute to the back of your door hanger. Finally, reinforce the attachment with additional glue layers or secure it with a small piece of fabric glued over the ends and ta-da! You can easily hang your door hanger!

Tips:

  • This works best for lightweight hangers and might not hold up to heavy use or bad weather.
  • For something more durable in freezing temps, swap hot glue for E6000 adhesive—it handles moisture and temperature changes like a pro.

Which Method is Right for You?

Each of these methods offers a unique solution for hanging your door hanger:

  • Drilled Holes are the most durable and professional-looking option for long-term use.
  • Staples are super reliable and work great for medium-weight hangers, but they’re usually best for single-sided designs only.
  • Hot Glue is a quick fix, perfect for lightweight or temporary décor.
